Comunet helped QG Air Rescue to establish an EFB program that would meet CASA regulations and provide an approved deployment. Airwatch was the chosen provider for mobile device management, which would help suffice control requirements and provide central administration of the EFB fleet to EFB Administrators. Comunet were also able to assist with drafting of the EFB operations manual, provide onsite training and provide post-support via a managed services arrangement.
There were 3 major requirements to the EFB deployment:
Mobile Device Management (MDM)
Airwatch was the chosen service provider for MDM. Airwatch has significant market credibility with 10 of the top Airlines globally utilising their service for EFB rollouts, additionally, Gartner has ranked Airwatch as number 1 for its MDM services. QG Air Rescue chose to pursue the shared-cloud service, thus removing the reliance of on-premise infrastructure. QG Air Rescue required certain security and monitoring policies in place to meet compliance, and the ability to easily deploy application to relevant groups of EFB’s.
Secure Document Distribution
Airwatch Content, was a core requirement to QG Air Rescue to enable consistent, centralised and secure document distribution to the end devices. This was to ensure documents such as checklists, safety manual, landing charts, etc could be easily accessible, would remove the need to carry them in paper form, and were always up-to-date.
Training
As noted in CASA regulations, the EFB Administrator is required to have undergone training in the use and management of the EFB system. QG Air Rescue structure, also included that the base administrators trained and proficient in the use of the same system to manage their respective fleets. Comunet were noted as the approved training provider and attended all bases for training of the Airwatch MDM service, management of the EFB fleet, troubleshooting of devices and use of SCL for document distribution.
